Why use blood testing?
Blood tests have been used as a tool for measuring health for a long time. However, they have been used primarily as a means for diagnosing disease. Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis is a fresh new look at an old tool of measure with the intention of preventing disease before it develops.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FUNCTIONAL BLOOD CHEMISTRY ANALYSIS AND 'REGULAR' BLOOD TESTING?
The lab ranges on a regular blood test look for diseases while functional medicine ranges look for patterns and markers that spot trends toward disease that can still be reversed or halted.
Functional testing doesn’t just look at individual markers, but also for patterns among various blood markers. All systems in the body are inter-related and a problem in one area of the body can show up as an out-of-range marker in another area.
Another difference between functional and conventional blood tests isn’t just the ranges used, but also the markers ordered. A conventional blood test will typically include far fewer markers than a functional one.
Some common functional tests
GENETIC PROFILING
A DNA test to assess over 200 nutritionally modifiable genes. By doing a simple saliva test, you can discover your DNA blueprint and learn how well your genes are matched to your present diet and lifestyle, as well as how you can unlock the full potential of your current and future health and wellness.

Through genetic profiling you can get the answers to many questions, such as:
-
Do I have genes that compromise my energy production?
-
Do I have genes that predispose me to weight gain?
-
Is caffeine good for me?
-
Do I have the genes that make me prone to inflammation?
-
Are my genes playing a part in my mental wellbeing?
-
Do I need extra nutrients in certain areas?
-
What is my genetic detoxification capacity?
-
What is my stress tolerance levels?
-
Do I have an increased risk of having lower HDL and higher LDL?
Synchronising your unique DNA blueprint with your diet and lifestyle, known as nutrigenomics, is the key to the exciting new realm of personalised wellness medicine.
FOOD ALLERGY TESTING
If you suffer from fatigue, headaches, difficulty losing weight, insatiable food cravings, food addictions, trouble concentrating, or simply that ‘run-over-by-a-truck’ feeling that you just can’t shake, you may have food sensitivities that you are not aware of.
To test for food allergies and food intolerances, a simple pin prick blood test can be completed. This test takes the guess work out of people’s diets and help them to easily eliminate what foods their immune system is reacting to.
DUTCH HORMONE PROFILE
The most comprehensive adrenal and reproductive hormone test available for both men and women who suffer from poor energy and hormonal concerns.
Organic acid markers have also been added to this test. Neurotransmitter metabolites will offer insights into symptoms such as mood disorders and fatigue, and will combine with markers for vitamin B12, vitamin B6 and glutathione deficiency.
STOOL TEST
This comprehensive stool test is an advanced non-invasive diagnostic tool for assessing gastrointestinal function. The analysis investigates digestion, metabolism, absorption and metabolic markers, pancreatic function, the balance of beneficial bacteria and the presence of pathological bacteria, yeast and parasites.
ORGANIC ACID TESTING (OAT)
Organic acids are metabolic by-products of cellular metabolism that can be measured in urine sample. There’s no need to go to a lab to draw blood. You can do the test yourself a home. This test looks at over 70 markers for overall health that can give answers to how well we burn fat, regulate blood sugar, make energy, make neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, and how well we detoxify. It can even test for intestinal bacteria overgrowth.
